The Sleep reconfigures Shiel’s manuscript with the special effects and film techniques used during the birth of cinema at the turn of the century to critique the contemporary cultural landscape and environmental issues. In MP Shiel’s genre classic written in 1901, an ambitious adventurer sets off to the undiscovered North Pole. Meanwhille a poisonous purple cloud covers the earth and annihilates all human and animal life… From the of the original manuscript, The Sleep extrapolates the crisis of contemporary survival, merging Shiel’s story with current accounts of climate change, and jettisoning the information accumulation of a digital society to investigate a forced primitivism and a crisis of being. BIG ART GROUP uses the language of media and blended states of performance in a unique form to build culturally transgressive and challenging new works with the aim of contributing an uncompromising, relevant, and original body of work to the performance stage.
